Hackfest 2011
Translation gracoiously done by Steven McElrea
For a third year in a row, under the new model, Hackfest has exceeded all expectations.
Here are the numbers; Over 370 attendees, 18 speakers, 32 partners, 40 people divided into 2 teams participated in Friday’s “Reality CTF” and 80 spread out over 20 teams in Saturday’s CTF. All of this makes Hackfest the largest Information Security event in Quebec and the largest organized Hacker games of it’s kind in Eastern Canada. Eric Parent and Sylvie Guerin (LogicNet) returned with another lock picking contest. Their success is measured by the constant flux of people putting their skills to the test… and this into the wee hours of the morning. During all this time the attendees were entertained by no less than 7 DJs.
Going beyond the statistics, Hackfest was an opportunity to fraternize with security professionals, and for the enthusiast to find out what’s going on in the InfoSec scene. The ambiance and energy in the conference was a buzz.
We’d like to take this occasion to thank all that permitted Hackfest’s renewed success… The partners (Altea/Sourcefire, TrendMicro/Compugen, Gardien Virtuel, Mallette, WatchGuard, Alfa, CGI, InFidem, no starch press, Okiok, Offensive Security, Qualys, Wolf Technologies, LogicNet.ca, Sekcore, SlowCow, TekSavvy, CQSI, ASIMM, Devicom, Hackus, Hackin9, ISSA Chapitre de Québec, Kiotrix, Mantor, Secus, Université Laval, Université de Sherbrooke, the academy kids et Zataz), for their financial and logistical support, the speakers for their high quality presentations, the Hacking Games’ organizers for the exceptional challenges, to the volunteers for their excellent work. And finally, the attendees and participants who came in great numbers and made the event a success.
